Alexa Lopiano

In my four years at UNH my work as an oil painter has grown in many amazing ways. One way that is demonstrated in the work included in this exhibition is my ever increasing use of bright and bold colors. I am a bright and bold person and overtime I have been able to reveal this through my use of unpredictable shapes, and intense color. I see myself in these paintings. Many of my paintings have a story behind them and the narrative strengthens my emotional psychological connection to them. Putting my feelings and stories into my art makes the work that much more meaningful and beautiful to me. Everything that I have learned throughout the years has been in part incorporated into each of my pieces in this exhibition. I began with the paintbrush and finished strong with the palette knife. I have constructed my recent paintings with slabs of paint; each stroke formed into a personification of parts of me.
